Sam Dear
Samantha Dear makes paintings of half imagined, half remembered spaces which take the viewer through a hidden interior where signs of absence and presence collide. This thoughtful work stimulates a dialogue in which the viewer can explore the idea of transience through their own interpretations.
In Samantha Dear's paintings architectural elements are incorporated to create unsettling scenes void of people. Over them, in areas, are painted layers of patterned wallpapers and floating net curtains suggestive of a more human presence. A strong sense of isolation and fragility exists between what we perceive as the public sphere and the more private personal space hidden behind a veil of seeing.
